I think this is an important site, as it simply addresses many of the myths about mental illness. However... one of the problems with borderline personality disorder is that a person with bpd may become abusive to friends and family members.. Many people pull back from someone with bpd out of self-protection, especially if the person refuses help or drops out of treatment. I think that supporting someone diagnosed with a mental illness who is serious about treatment and recovery is very different from trying to support someone who is lashing out repeatedly, perhaps manipulating friends and family members, and is not in treatment or recovery. There is also a difference between being supportive of someone who is a friend vs. someone who is a romantic partner or a spouse. The relationship can be quite different, and being a romantic partner of someone may not be possible. This site doesn't really address that or if it did, I didn't notice that part.
