A good overview of a big subject - mental health disorders. Because the article tries to be comprehensive, there are some topics that are dealt with quite briefly. There's an interesting section on the different types of talking therapies though the section on medication's quite short. There's not much discussion of drugs other than to list generic names. Read this article to get big picture look at mental health disorders and decide what you want to research more deeply.

Mental health is such a broad topic so it's tough to capture it with one overview. However, this one does a good job of presenting a cursory but helpful look at the different type of treatments, practitioners and more.

The treatment options section alone is well worth your time spent reading this article. Everything including most therapies and drugs are covered here in good detail. An excellent section on the differences between the different mental health practitioners is a must read if you are trying to decide what kind of mental health professional you should see.

While the initial link/page is rather short (just a couple of paragraphs), clicking further into the Merck page leads to many different educational opportunities. The "Mental Illness in Society" page is fascinating and I absolutely recommend you check it out!!!

This is a good summary of what it's like to have a mental illness. What a patient needs is an environment where they can control what stress is taken out, so the medication they take every day under a doctor's care works. They also need a family support system to help them through bureaucracy and other physical problems unrelated to their mental illness that come up, because if someone is mentally ill, it's harder to do things like get an MRI or other basic medical procedures.
